Adamson University Student Government (AUSG) has submitted a request to postpone a tuition fee increase for the school year 2021-2022.
In their Facebook post, AUSG stated that many students and families are having a financial crisis because of the pandemic and cannot cope with the tuition fee increase.
“Parents and students are still unemployed and financially incapable of coping with the increase in fees due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their finances.” the statement read.
AUSG also addressed other reasons why the university should not go for a tuition fee increase.
“Miscellaneous fees like laboratory fees are being charged to students when in fact; it serves no direct purpose, and the university’s facilities are not being utilized due to the virtual learning approach.” the statement read.
“The COVID-19 affected the community, and the COVID-19 cases are still increasing, and it will just create a burden for the students,” it added.
AUSG’s proposal against TOSFI (tuition and other school fees increase) is in accordance with the released “Interim Guidelines” of CHED (Commission on Higher Education) in 2021. The Interim Guidelines came into effect on February 2, 2021.
