Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) declared to start having online registration for national ID on April 30, 2021.
As of the first quarter of 2021, there are already 17.4 million individuals who are already registered and have completed step one of the registration which was done through door-to-door gathering of information in low-income families.
In the meantime, there are 4.6 million individuals who have already completed step two which includes going to the registration center to provide biometric information.
National statistician Dennis Mapa said that they are aiming to reach 70 million individuals to register to the Philippine Identification System (PHILSYS) at the end of the year.
As President Duterte ratified, the single national identification will unify the various government IDs. Moreover, the Philippine Identification System will provide a digital ID and PHILSYS Card Number (PCN) as it is applicable as a valid proof of identity of the Filipinos and resident aliens of the country.
Currently, there are now 100,000 Filipinos who will receive their national ID cards that will be delivered by the Philippine Postal Corporation, which is a partner of the Philippine Identification System.
